Abstract:
This review paper explores the historical relationship between geographic features and major historical events, emphasizing the role of geographic determinism in shaping civilizations, migration patterns, military strategies, and trade routes. The concept of geographic determinism, which suggests that the physical environment influences the development of human societies, is examined through a series of case studies across different regions and time periods. While geography has played a crucial role in the rise and fall of empires, the study argues that human agency, culture, and social dynamics must also be considered as key factors in shaping historical outcomes. The paper also highlights how geography has been used in historical narratives, particularly in textbooks and media, to reinforce political and cultural identities. The review concludes by calling for a more balanced approach to understanding the role of geography in history, recognizing both its influence and the importance of human adaptation and interaction.
